Knowing that being a military spouse often leaves us as single parents during deployments or as a single person doing the work for two people while our spouses are gone.  Running, healthy living, is often times put on the back burner and we don't make time for ourselves.

I didn't start running until 7 years ago when I stopped smoking and my husband was getting ready to deploy again for the 7th time.  I knew that I needed something to distract me from the reality and stress that I felt while he would be gone and I also knew that I needed to lose weight since I had gained 40 pounds after quitting.

Just like a budget, fitness and nutrition are a lifestyle change.  It isn't an overnight change without the room for error, it's a work in progress.  Know that starting out you will have to review your nutrition and exercise program monthly to make sure that you are sticking to your objectives/goals and that you tweak the areas that you are falling behind in.

I would suggest starting your running journey out with a specific time during the day that you allow yourself 20-30 minutes for just you.  This may mean that you are running in place in your living room while the baby's sleeping or jogging around your house 50 times to get it done, but the first step will allow you to free yourself from the feeling that you, "don't have time to run/exercise".

The treadmill is my dreaded enemy but throughout the years I have had to use it to make sure that I can get my runs in so I can participate in race events and perform at my best.  If you need to use the treadmill don't look at it as the "dreaded" machine, look at it as a way to get your miles in and the peace that comes from the experience of running.

I've come a long way since those first steps and now I run a 4 hour marathon, and usually place in my age group at any race event that I go to.  I love the peace that running brings me and I'd love to share that with you and your family.

In my blog I will share everything I've learned in the past 7 years and hopefully help you run like the wind blows.
